Education Gist: How Thieves Vandalize Solar Powered Streets Light, Cart Away Flower Plants In UNICAL - VC Reveals

Thieves have stolen flower plants and vandalized 54 solar powered streets light in the University of Calabar.
As reported by  of Dailypost NG, the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University Prof. Zana Akpagu disclosed this while frowning at recent theft incidents in the University.

He said that the thieves did not only steal flowering plants in the University, but also vandalized over 54 solar-powered street lights.
It would be recalled that the VC recently set up a Park and Garden committee with the mandate of giving the University a face lift through planting of flowers and trees.
The committee which kicked off planting of flowers and trees a fortnight ago has had its efforts truncated by unknown men who have made away with several numbers of flowering trees planted along the Prof Ayo Dele boulevard.
This is coming barely few weeks after the University authority discovered the vandalization of over 54 solar-powered street lights mounted in the institution.
But Prof. Akpagu who spoke through the Chairman, Board of Media and Community Relations of the University, Dr. Joseph Ekpang frowned at the development while warning perpetrators to desist from further theft and vandalization of properties as surveillance team is on the prowl for them.

According to him, “The recently launched Parks and Gardens initiative aimed at institutionalizing the beautification programme of the Vice-Chancellor has apparently suffered a major setback. Some unscrupulous vandals have started stealing the flowering plants that were planted just two weeks ago”.
“This is the same fate that 54 solar-powered street lights suffered last year when their batteries were similarly vandalized. This is most unfortunate and whoever is responsible for this dastardly act is put on notice a surveillance team is on the prowl for them. To be forewarned is to be forewarned.”
