Merit Scholarships At Yale University

Are you interested in applying for Merit Scholarships Yale University? Although Yale does not award merit-based scholarships, many Yale students are recognized financially for their academic and extracurricular talents by outside organizations. We encourage you to pursue these outside awards, which can significantly reduce or eliminate your Student Effort amount.

Government sites
The U.S. government provides resources to help both U.S. and international students find scholarships for study at American universities.
U.S. military benefits: The U.S. government offers a variety of education benefits for veterans and active service members.
Notifying Yale about outside awards
  • New students receiving financial aid are required to submit a Family Information Supplement (FIS) as part of their award verification. If you receive an outside award after submitting the FIS, you should submit an Outside Scholarship/Resource Update form.
  • Continuing students submit information about outside aid on the Yale financial aid application form. If you receive an outside award after submitting your Yale financial aid application, you should submit an Outside Scholarship/Resource Update form.
  • Students who are not receiving Yale financial aid should report outside resources or merit scholarships using the Outside Scholarship/Resource Update form so the credit(s) can be applied to their term bill.
